What happened

American firm L3Harris Technologies and US Navy will develop a heavy fuel engine variant of the FVR-90 drone, a vertical take off and landing (VTOL) system. The prototype project is a step forward in the Navy’s long-term strategy to develop a VTOL systems that offer greater tactical mobility and do not require launch and recovery equipment. When deployed at sea, today’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) must be able to operate in harsh maritime environments, providing exceptional strength and range.
