Child dies after gas leak in Italy

A 4 year child died in Petralia Soprana, near Palermo, in a farmhouse. The parents reported a strong smell of gas in the house, but there was no help for the child who stopped breathing due to the gas and went into cardiac arrest. The Fire Brigade’s Biological, Chemical and Radiological Unit carried out investigations at the scene. It is assumed that what caused the child’s death was a gas leak from an cylinder in the kitchen of the flat while the child slept in the adjacent room.
