World Health Organization has issued an alert after a case of H1N1 was detected in the Netherlands. A human infection caused by a new subtype of influenza A virus is an event that has a potentially high public health impact and should be notified to WHO. Symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to those of normal seasonal flu and include fever, fatigue, poor appetite, cough, sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea.
WHO stated that the possibility of the disease spreading among humans is low and that there is currently no evidence of person-to-person transmission and the case is considered sporadic. Health Authorities recommend the seasonal influenza vaccine even though it does not protect against swine flu, but it helps keep the eventual illness from getting worse.
