Unit 1 of the Tricastin Nuclear Power Plant in southern France can operate for a further ten years, the country’s nuclear safety regulator, the Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN), has decided. It becomes the first French power reactor licensed to operate beyond 40 years, since 1980. The Regulator said it believes that the measures envisaged by EDF combined with those prescribed by ASN will ensure the safety of the units for another 10 years of operation.
