Lawmakers in France have approved a bill aimed at speeding up the construction of new nuclear reactors in the country and the previous cap on nuclear energy, which constituted 50% of France’s electric mix, has been lifted.
The legislation aligns with the government’s objective of bolstering renewable and nuclear energy to facilitate the energy transition. Additionally, it coincides with the European ‘nuclear alliance’, which currently comprises 16 member countries committed to establishing a European nuclear industry that will eventually generate 150 GW by 2050.
