What happened

Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB) has signed a contract with Amazônia Azul Technologias de Defesa SA (Amazul) to provide engineering services for the second phase of the uranium enrichment plant at INB’s nuclear fuel factory in Resende. The contract was signed by INB President Carlos Freire Moreira and the Amazul CEO Newton Costa, during a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the creation of INB’s Isotopic Enrichment Technical Board. The second phase is called the Commercial Uranium Enrichment Plant with more than 30 cascades of ultracentrifuges, aiming to provide the country with self-sufficiency in uranium enrichment. The forecast is that, by the year 2033, the company will be able to meet, with full national production, the fuel demand of Angra 1 and Angra 2 and, by 2037, the needs of Angra 3.
