In Pierre-Bénite, just south of Lyon, local residents attacked and blamed French chemical giant Arkema for contaminating the environment around its plant near Lyon. A local media investigation has recently revealed high levels of contamination in the blood of local residents.
Legal action has been initiated against Arkema by local residents and associations, marking the first such case in France. When contacted, Arkema declined to comment on the legal proceedings. The group emphasises that ‘French and European regulations are among the strictest in the world’.
