In Uganda, the Ministry of Health has confirmed three Mpox cases in Kitgum District. Two were in Kitgum Municipality, and one in Namokora Town Council. All three infected individuals are treated at home and responding well to medical care. Titus Komakech, the Surveillance focal person, said the cases have raised concerns about the spread of the disease in the region. He added that the outbreak highlights the importance of continued vigilance and adherence to preventive measures, requiring community awareness and participation to enhance efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
Uganda has reported over 1100 Mpox cases in 2024, as part of a larger outbreak in the African region involving 19 countries. The Democratic Republic of the Congo accounts for most of the 17,000 confirmed cases and 60 deaths in the area, followed by neighbouring Burundi.
