According to ITALPRESS sources, SOGIN has commenced dismantling activities on the Radwaste system, which was utilised during the plant’s operation to manage radioactive liquid effluents, at the Garigliano nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca (Caserta). The activity, carried out using remotely guided cutting robots, was preceded by work to adapt the electrical, ventilation, and radiological monitoring systems to ensure the safety of technical personnel. In 2023, three tanks at the Garigliano facility were already decontaminated from sludge. The operations, which should be completed within the year, will result in the demolition of approximately 50 tons of metal material. Following the smelting and decontamination processes, the remaining 15 tons of radioactive waste will be stored in the site’s temporary depots, pending subsequent transfer to the National Repository.
