What happened

As reported by the local press, citing a note issued by the territorially competent Public Health and Hygiene Service, two cases of scabies have been recorded in a secondary school in Montebelluna, in the province of Treviso, Italy. The documented cases involve two students in contact with each other, even though they are not enrolled in the same class. Following the provision of the requisite medical care, these students returned to their regular school attendance. Given the rarity with which this disease is transmitted within educational institutions, the implementation of extraordinary interventions such as school closure or disinfestation has not been considered a prerequisite. A thorough cleaning of the premises is considered to be an adequate measure. It is imperative to exercise vigilance about the emergence of any suspicious cutaneous lesions. In such instances, it is of the utmost importance to seek immediate consultation with the attending physician. To date, there have been no reports of further cases.
