Official sources have confirmed the death of Russian General Yaroslav Moskalik in Balashikha, a town situated a short distance from Moscow, as a result of the detonation of a rudimentary explosive device. Preliminary reports issued by Svetlana Petrenko, the spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee, indicate that the explosion was triggered by a homemade explosive device (HME) containing shrapnel, which had been placed within the victim’s vehicle, as reported by Interfax. An investigative team comprised of investigators, forensic specialists, subject matter experts, and personnel from law enforcement operational units is currently examining the incident location. Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has denounced the event as a ‘terrorist attack.’ In connection with the explosion, no other casualties were reported.
