What happened

A new case of Dengue fever has been documented in the municipality of Appignano, in the province of Macerata, Marche region, Italy. Following a period of travel to a region identified as being at risk for the disease, a resident has received a positive diagnosis for the virus. The individual is currently receiving inpatient care and is in stable condition; however, they remain under observation to assess the progression of symptoms. This is the first hospitalization related to Dengue fever in 2025, after the outbreak in the Pesaro area during the preceding year. Local public health officials have initiated an epidemiological investigation to ascertain the individual’s close contacts. Furthermore, a comprehensive vector control program has been implemented in the vicinity of the infected individual’s residence to mitigate the potential dissemination of the virus through the reduction of mosquito vectors. Dengue fever, a viral illness transmitted by the Aedes albopictus mosquito, frequently resolves without intervention. Nevertheless, continuous monitoring is deemed essential to avert complications and control any potential outbreaks.
