What happened

Two fatalities and four injuries were reported in Katsina State following an ambush on the 32nd Battalion of the Nigerian Army by suspected terrorists. The incident occurred along the Shimfida-Gurbi road, where the troops were escorting residents of the community to Jibia town to purchase food items. The incident involved an improvised explosive device (IED) detonating against the armoured military vehicle (APC). Following the detonation, the vehicle was subjected to an attack by an armed group. According to a security source, the ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of several terrorists and serious injuries to many others. Two soldiers were killed at the scene, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.
