What happened

A fire broke out on Friday (April 11) at the Cotorro brewery in the Havana municipality, forcing the evacuation of nearby residents. The evacuation was due to concerns about the risk of collapse of the facility or a potential ammonia leak. The president of the Business Group of the Food Industry, Emerio González Lorenzo, said the fire broke out in the building of an old beer cooler, and all firefighting techniques have been deployed to contain it. However, journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso reported that efforts are still underway to extinguish the blaze. No fatalities or injuries have been reported so far.
One of the main concerns leading to the evacuation of residents has been the danger of an ammonia leak, as this gas is extremely toxic. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure safety in the area. The cause of the fire at the brewery remains unknown.
