Oxfam, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has expressed serious concerns regarding the potential for epidemic outbreaks resulting from the extensive flooding in the Mandalay and Sagaing regions of Myanmar, areas recently impacted by a significant earthquake. Oxfam reports that this risk is particularly acute for the hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals currently residing in temporary shelters, where access to potable water and appropriate sanitation is limited. Paolo Pezzati, a representative for humanitarian crises at Oxfam Italy, stated that the emergency has impacted an estimated 17 million individuals across 57 of the nation’s 330 municipalities. The reported death toll has reached 3,400, with thousands more injured, and is expected to increase.
