What happened

The Environment Agency (EA) has warned about the risk of bathing water contamination at Mawgan Porth beach, Cornwall, after a slurry pollution incident affecting a nearby stream. The stream flows onto the beach, around four miles north of Newquay. On Saturday, April 5, its watercourse was filled with slurry. On Monday, April 7, the EA said that the source of pollution has been stopped, but there is still a risk of “reduced bathing water quality” at the beach. People heading there should not go into the stream. Samples have been taken to test the quality of water and the level of contamination.
