What happened

A conflagration at a wood waste depot located in Bicinicco, within the province of Udine, Italy, necessitated the involvement of the local Fire Department, with ground crews consisting of 17 land vehicles, supplemented by water drops provided by the Drago 154, the helicopter of the Venice Fire Department’s Flight. The presence of MDF (medium-density fibreboard) panels, i.e. composite panels made of wood fibres pressed with glues and resins at high temperatures, among the combustible materials, required the intervention of the provincial CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) Unit. The extinguishing operations were hindered by strong winds and required over six hours of work, involving seven ordinary teams made up of a total of 55 firefighters. Concurrently, a gas cabin was also made safe. The operation is still ongoing, although the conflagration has been declared under control. There have been no reported casualties or injuries.
