The victim toll from the fire at the ‘Petronas’ gas pipeline in Putra Heights, near Kuala Lumpur, has been updated by local authorities. The initial number, which stood at 112 injured and 63 hospitalized, has now risen to 145 injured, including three children, with 67 still receiving medical treatment. Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that 41 victims had been discharged, while 37 others had sought medical attention from general practitioners and private hospitals. It was confirmed that all victims were in stable condition. Amirudin Shari, the Chief Minister of Selangor, stated that the fire had been fully extinguished by the afternoon of April 1 and that residents in the surrounding area had been evacuated as a precautionary measure. A total of 305 residents were rescued by firefighters and relocated to a temporary relief centre in Masjid Putra Heights. The property damage was extensive, affecting 190 houses and 159 damaged vehicles. The state government and ‘Petronas’ Company have committed to assuming full responsibility for the restoration of the area, a process that is expected to take approximately one year.
