On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, a simulation of a major industrial accident about explosive hazards will be executed in Valmarecchia, Province of Rimini, Italy. The exercise will involve the participation of the five municipalities within the designated area. This simulation tests the national public warning system IT-Alert in Emilia-Romagna. It will send warning messages to the local population about a hypothetical major accident at a high-risk facility (as defined by the Seveso Directive). The facility is a storage depot for explosives in Novafeltria. The test message will be transmitted to all cellular phones connected to mobile network cells within the test area, encompassing a five-kilometer radius surrounding the facility. It will potentially reach approximately 11,300 residents, as well as individuals transiting through the area during the one-hour duration that the message will remain active. The test will be coordinated by the National Department of Civil Protection, in close collaboration with the Prefecture of Rimini and the Regional Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection, whose personnel will be involved in monitoring and supporting activities throughout the test phase. Individuals participating in these activities will be requested to complete the online questionnaire on the IT-Alert website. This feedback mechanism is intended to facilitate the development of a more secure and dependable alert system.
