What happened

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Cargill Kitchen Solutions is recalling over 200,000 pounds of liquid egg products potentially contaminated with a cleaning solution containing sodium hypochlorite. The recalled products, including cartons of Cage-Free Frozen Egg Substitute, have establishment number G1804 ink-jetted over the package. The products were distributed across several states, including Arizona, Colorado, California, and Iowa. The FSIS said they may also have been distributed nationwide.
The potential contamination was discovered after a tip. However, FSIS scientists stated that the cleaning solution should not cause serious adverse reactions among consumers. The recall is classified as a Class III, which indicates a low health risk. Despite such classification, consumers are advised not to eat the affected products and return them to the place of purchase.
