A 75-year-old man from Vespolate, near Novara, Italy, has died after being hospitalized for a few days with West Nile virus. He had been experiencing worsening symptoms for weeks, eventually requiring treatment at the ‘Maggiore’ Hospital in Novara, but he didn’t recover. This marks the sixth death in the Novara area due to West Nile Virus, a mosquito-borne illness that can be deadly to humans. Infectious disease expert Matteo Bassetti, head of Infectious Diseases at the San Martino hospital in Genoa, posted a warning on ‘X’ about the risks of mosquito-borne viruses, urging investment in prevention and environmental clean-up.
