About detecting a minute quantity of cement-based material containing asbestos in the construction site area of Bari, which was affected by the collapse of the building in the preceding weeks, the specialised company responsible for managing such materials has confirmed the presence of asbestos in the analysed sample. However, given that the material is in the ‘compact solid state,’ with a release index lower than 0.1, lower than the limit of 0.6, the risk of dispersion of asbestos fibers was excluded. Furthermore, the analyses of airborne dust carried out on samples taken on 21, 22, 23, and 24 March, confirm the absence of asbestos fibers. Consequently, precautionary measures have been implemented in the affected area to safeguard public health, including restrictions on observation, the requirement to keep windows closed, and the use of protective equipment such as masks until further notice.
