The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department has recently identified a new confirmed case of Mpox in Peshawar. The case in question is that of a 35-year-old female patient, who was most likely infected by her 42-year-old husband, who had previously been diagnosed with the virus and was therefore placed into quarantine at his place of residence. According to the experts’ assessment, the infection may have occurred due to non-compliance with the isolation regime among members of the same family. Local health authorities have initiated contact tracing to contain the spread of the disease. The total number of patients infected with zoonotic diseases in KP province has now risen to six since the beginning of the year, three of whom were diagnosed in March. The province has recorded 15 cases of Mpox, including six in 2025, seven in 2024, and two in 2023. Most patients had travelled from the United Arab Emirates or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the disease is endemic. Authorities have implemented screening measures for passengers arriving from the UAE and Saudi Arabia at Bacha Khan International Airport, and those exhibiting symptoms have been transferred to the designated isolation ward of the Service Hospital. This facility has been meticulously prepared to accommodate and treat such cases.
