A three-year-old male child has died from avian influenza in northeastern Cambodia, specifically in Prek Ta Aim, Bos Leav community, Chetr Borei district. Preliminary medical records indicate that the child’s family, engaged in poultry farming, consumed diseased fowl that had been prepared for consumption. Public health officials are currently investigating the origin of the infection, evaluating potential additional cases, and identifying individuals who had contact with the deceased. This incident marks the third mortality resulting from human infection with the H5N1 virus in Cambodia this year. Since 2003, the nation has documented seventy-five instances of human infection with the H5N1 avian virus, resulting in forty-six fatalities.
