A fatal case of measles has been reported in Gaines County, Texas. The deceased, a six-year-old girl, had not been vaccinated against the disease. The death occurred on 26 February. The girl’s parents have stated to the media that their four other children, who had also contracted the disease and had not been vaccinated, were treated with castor oil and nebulizers and subsequently recovered. This outbreak has infected a total exceeding 270 individuals, led to the hospitalisation of dozens, and has been the largest measles outbreak in Texas for 30 years.
