What happened

The Italian Ministry of Health has released an announcement concerning the withdrawal of baked goods from the market due to a possible microbiological hazard, specifically, suspected Salmonella contamination. This recall, implemented as a preventative action, involves food products produced by a company with a manufacturing plant located in Bellizzi, in the province of Salerno. Consumers are instructed to avoid eating the affected confectionery items and to return them to the place of purchase. According to media reports, these products are believed to be connected to an international Salmonella outbreak, which has affected approximately one hundred persons in Canada and the United States since September 2024. Both countries declared the outbreak to be concluded on March 20, 2025.
