What happened

The automated teller machines (ATMs) at the post offices in Onigo di Pederobba, Mogliano Veneto, and Noale, in the provinces of Treviso and Venice, Italy, were destroyed in a series of explosions during the night of 21st-22nd March. These explosions resulted in substantial damage to the physical structures of the ATMs. According to local press reports, a rudimentary explosive device composed of gunpowder was employed to breach the safety deposit box in the Mogliano branch, with the detonation occurring within the money dispenser. In Onigo di Pederobba, the explosion resulted in a fire within the premises, necessitating the intervention of the local firefighters to extinguish the flames and rescue a disabled woman residing on the upper floor of the affected building. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the same gang was responsible for the attacks, given the rapid succession of incidents and the similarities in the technique used. There have been no reported casualties in these attacks, which, at this stage, appear to have been perpetrated by unidentified individuals.
