The French government has announced its intention to distribute a ‘Survival Manual’ to French citizens. This manual will provide citizens with a series of information to face potential threats such as natural disasters, technological and computer accidents, health crises, terrorist attacks, armed conflicts and even the nuclear threat. The manual is a 20-page booklet with detailed images, descriptions, and advice such as the creation of a ‘kit’ including water, canned food with a long shelf life, and a medical set of paracetamol. The manual is scheduled for distribution in the early summer months. A list of emergency numbers will be distributed to all French households, along with the radio frequencies to follow and a series of reminders. It will also explain how to contribute to the defense of the entire community by joining voluntary reserve units or fire-fighting groups. France is following the example of other European countries, such as Sweden and Finland, which have long been committed to preparing the civilian population to face potential natural and technological threats.
