Statnett, the national grid operator, has reported that approximately 60 tonnes of oil have been leaked from a decommissioned power transformer station in the municipality of Bærum, near Oslo. The oil that leaked from the facility reached the Sandvikselva River, contaminating the subsoil. Clean-up operations have commenced to mitigate the environmental impact of the oil spill, with the installation of barriers and absorbent surfaces. Statnett, the operator, has expressed the opinion that the incident was an act of malicious sabotage. Preliminary investigations indicate that an unknown perpetrator has either cut part of the perimeter fence surrounding the facility or unscrewed the cover at the base of the transformer and left it in an open position. In response, the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. However, authorities have stated that there is currently no concrete evidence to support the hypothesis of malicious sabotage.
