What happened

Following a report concerning the potential presence of Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope with adverse health effects, a team of firefighters with territorial responsibility, accompanied by the CBRN unit, responded to a ferrous materials storage facility located in Fornaci di Barga, Province of Lucca. Firefighters collected samples of the substance in question, which will be subjected to subsequent analysis by the Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Tuscany (ARPAT). It is presumed that the report originated from the automated activation of safety sensors installed in metallurgical and steel manufacturing facilities, where recycled ferrous or metallic materials may be susceptible to accidental environmental contamination and exhibit traces of this radioactive isotope.
