Over the last two days 25 diarrhoea cases were reported in Gopalapuram mandal, East Godavari district. On Monday (17 March), four more people were hospitalised due to the outbreak, while twenty patients were discharged after receiving treatment at the community health centre. Other nine people are still under medical care at the centre. The diarrhoea cases were reported in Gopalapuram and several nearby villages, including Peddagudem, Uppalagudem, and Chitaya. The cause of the outbreak is probably the sudden rise of temperatures that created the conditions for the spread of diarrhoea.
East Godavari District Collector P Prasanti said there is no need to panic as all precautionary measures have been taken to curb the spread. Special teams are visiting the affected villages and investigating the diarrhoea cases. All water tanks in the district will be chlorinated. These preventive measures were confirmed by Gopalapuram MLA Maddipati Venkata Raju, who said that medical teams were deployed in the area under the instruction of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
