What happened

In Bolzano, a young electrical engineer was apprehended by the Carabinieri of the Special Operations Group (ROS). The individual is accused of engaging in propaganda and incitement to criminal activity, motivated by aggravated racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination. The accused is also charged with undertaking training for activities intended to promote terrorism, including international terrorism. This arrest was mandated after an investigation initiated in September 2023, which revealed a social media profile actively involved in disseminating Nazi-related content and expressing support for the ‘Islamic State,’ a jihadist terrorist organization. The investigation corroborated the extensive distribution of multimedia propaganda materials of both a jihadist and anti-Semitic nature. Investigations further indicated the arrestee’s persistent indoctrination of family members residing in the same household, including a sibling aged ten.

Additionally, evidence was discovered indicating a course of instruction on the assembly of explosive devices triggered by wireless detonators, specifically about the creation of a triacetone triperoxide (TATP) improvised explosive device (IED). Court-ordered searches of the residence resulted in the confiscation of a gas mask, over 200 units of gunpowder, electronic components suitable for detecting surveillance devices and manufacturing remote controls, micro-soldering equipment, and various computer and documentary materials.
