What happened

A security source has announced that the Criminal Investigation Department in West Bengal, India, has approved the procurement of two Total Containment Vessels (TCV) for its Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) units stationed at the domestic airports of Durgapur (known as Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport) and Cooch Behar (Cooch Behar Airport). Mounted on a trailer, the TCVs are designed to safely secure and transport explosive devices of various types while minimising the risk of damage to the surrounding area and personnel from a potential blast. According to the source, the TCVs are capable of containing the blast generated by a minimum of 8 kilograms of high explosives (TNT) or an equivalent amount of explosives. The Tactical Combat Vehicles, which are under consideration for acquisition by the Counter Improvised Device (CID) department, are required to possess a pre-configured module. This module should facilitate subsequent modification of the vehicle to a sealed configuration, enabling the accommodation of equipment designed to address chemical or biological threats, without necessitating the removal of the unit from national territory.
