During bridge replacement operations in proximity to the Gare du Nord railway station in Paris, a piece of unexploded ordnance (ERW) from the Second World War was inadvertently unearthed along the railway lines. The device was extracted from a depth of approximately two meters by an earthmoving machine. Upon arrival at the scene, specialist units of the metropolitan police identified the ordnance as a highly hazardous 500-kilogram British bomb. The operation to secure the affected area required around twelve hours and necessitated the partial suspension of rail services and the precautionary closure of a major motorway. This resulted in significant interruptions to both domestic and international transportation, affecting an estimated 600,000 travelers at Gare du Nord, according to media reports. Following the successful completion of the defusing procedure, which resulted in no harm to individuals or property, the motorway was reopened to vehicular traffic and rail services were progressively reinstated.
