What happened

Food inspectors visited two eateries in Hyderabad, reporting them for multiple food safety violations. The two establishments are Amogha Hotel and Café and Taaza Kitchen, located in Ameerpet. At Amogha Hotel and Café, inspectors detected signs of an extensive rat infestation in the storage area, and the toilet was found to be opening into the kitchen, increasing the risk of contamination. There were also no available records about pest control and food safety practices. Refrigerators were not properly maintained and contained articles uncovered and unlabelled. They were also littered with food waste. At Taaza Kitchen, the inspecting team found food articles uncovered and unlabelled in refrigerators, and the rice storage was infested with insects. Food and non-food items were kept together, and many vegetables were spoiled. The inspectors also found that the personnel used rusty kitchen knives to cut vegetables. Finally, there were no temperature records for the cold room, and some food handlers did not use hairnets and gloves.
