What happened

Dubai Municipality has launched the “Safe Water for a Healthy Community” initiative. The project aims to strengthen water system safety in senior citizens’ homes and is part of the UAE’s efforts to build a cohesive and sustainable society. The initiative involves technical assessments, laboratory testing, and community engagement to reduce health risks linked to water contamination. The final intent is to align Dubai’s water system with the highest international quality standards. The project’s first phase will assess 42 homes and villas in 10 different areas of the city, testing the water system’s safety and its compliance with international regulations. Specialist engineering teams will conduct field inspections and collect samples for analysis. Any critical situation will be addressed through corrective measures planned with water treatment specialists.
Naseem Mohammed Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the initiative is focused on enhancing community well-being and preventive health measures. He also stressed the importance of regular household water testing to reduce the risk of chemical and bacteriological contamination. The initiative is conducted in partnership with the Community Development Authority (CDA), which is deeply committed to improving the quality of life for senior citizens. For Muhannad Saeed, Director of the Senior Citizens Department at the CDA, raising awareness about the importance of regular maintenance and water quality checks contributes to the well-being of senior citizens and strengthens a supportive environment that protects their health and comfort. As part of the project, Dubai Municipality and CDA plan several workshops in city councils to further promote education about water safety and hygiene.
