The KNRA hosts the EU-CBRN Regional Secretariat for the Eastern and Central African Centres of Excellence initiative, which includes 12 member states. Participants discussed the need to strengthen security cooperation between the Kenyan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA) and European countries through a programme funded by the European Union. The programme has established the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centres of Excellence (EU-CBRN) in the Eastern and Central Africa region. This initiative aims to enhance regional preparedness and response capabilities to CBRN threats through capacity building and training programmes. Member states are committed to promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices to mitigate the risks associated with hazardous materials. The partnership also aims to improve regulatory frameworks and oversight to ensure compliance with international security standards. Going forward, stakeholders will continue to engage in joint exercises and strategic planning to strengthen regional and international security cooperation.
