What happened

According to local sources, a gunpowder explosion occurred at the Talata Mafara weekly market in Zamfara State, killing two people and injuring 50 others. Medical facilities were overwhelmed and many victims had to be transferred to Sokoto. Former governor Abdulazeez Yari provided transport for the injured to receive specialist care. Residents had previously raised concerns about arms dealers in the market. A similar incident last year resulted in the death of a young girl. Residents are calling for the gun dealers to be relocated to a safer area. Some oppose a ban on Danish guns, saying they are used for self-defence. Police have confirmed the explosion but are still gathering full details. Authorities are under pressure to address safety concerns in the market.
