The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a significant recall of confectionery products due to the potential presence of Salmonella, which represents a considerable microbiological hazard to consumers. This food alert was triggered by a notification published on the Ministry of Health’s online portal for Safety Notices and Food Product Recalls. The recall includes various confectionery items, specifically those batches manufactured between June 2024 and January 2025 and packaged by a company operating a facility in Belizzi, Salerno. The Ministry advises consumers to refrain from consuming the recalled products and to return them to the place of purchase. This alert follows a previous warning originating in the United States, where the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified Italian-produced sweets, also exported to the U.S., as a possible origin of a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak affecting multiple states. As of January 29th, 18 instances of Salmonella infections had been documented across seven states.
