What happened

It is reported that a fatality resulting from pneumococcal bacterial meningitis has occurred in Castello di Godego, located within the province of Treviso, Italy. According to local news sources, the deceased was a two-year-old male who had previously received vaccination against the aforementioned illness. The patient was transported to Castelfranco Veneto hospital due to the presence of an elevated body temperature and a state of unconsciousness. Subsequently, the patient underwent intubation and was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) situated in Padua, where a diagnosis of pneumococcal bacterial meningitis was established. The patient’s demise ensued a few days following the diagnosis.
