Thai authorities are implementing heightened disease control measures after reports of a new mysterious disease in Congo. Currently, no suspected cases of the disease have been identified in Thailand. However, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) has strengthened surveillance, prevention, and control procedures, including stricter screening protocols at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Travellers from Congo will undergo temperature checks and provide addresses and contact numbers in Thailand. Those who have been in Congo during the last 21 days must complete a health reporting form and follow the guidelines on the Health Beware Card issued by health authorities. They should also monitor for symptoms, including fever over 38° C, headache, sore throat, and fatigue. If these symptoms do not improve, they must seek immediate medical attention and inform doctors of their travel history.
Meanwhile, Thai authorities have effectively managed a cholera outbreak near the border with Myanmar. There’s now a minimal number of patients receiving proper diagnosis and treatment.
