Investing in nuclear power is necessary for Italy to achieve its energy goals and ensure European energy sovereignty, MEP Luca Toccalini (Lega/ID) stated. The Italian coalition has expressed its support for nuclear power as part of Italy’s energy mix, along with investments in renewables and partnerships with North African countries for gas supplies.
The Chamber of Deputies recently approved a majority motion on energy initiatives to achieve climate neutrality goals. This commits the government to accelerate Italy’s decarbonisation process and consider nuclear power as an alternative and clean source of energy production in the national energy mix.
