What happened

A 15-year-old boy from the North East is accused of planning a terrorist attack and being part of a neo-Nazi group. The boy, whose identity cannot be legally disclosed, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (February 27). He attended proceedings by video link and confirmed his details, denying the charges. The court was told that the boy discussed plans for a terrorist action with an unidentified person earlier this year and acquired weapons. He also downloaded extremist manuals. He is allegedly a member of The Base, a far-right white supremacist group that was proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the Home Office in 2021. After hearing the arguments and the boy’s reply, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring considered the charges too serious for a youth court and decided to remand the boy into detention. The case will discussed by a criminal court at the Old Bailey, where the boy will appear on March 14.
