What happened

A suspected outbreak of rabies has been documented in the western mountainous region of Libya, as reported by The Libya Observer website. In response, the National Center for Animal Health has dispatched a veterinary team to Al-Rujban to conduct inquiries into the matter. In an interview with local media outlets, Abdulrahman Jbeil, the director of the National Center for Animal Health, confirmed the diagnosis of rabies in Al-Asabea and characterised the disease as seasonal and dangerous, with implications for both humans and animals. He went on to assure the public that the situation was under control, while also indicating that currently available human vaccines were expected to arrive in Libya in the coming weeks. Concurrently, the veterinary team convened with the mayor of Al-Asabea municipality to formulate public awareness campaigns, in collaboration with local officials, to educate the public on precautionary measures against the disease.
