What happened

The New York City Health Department (NYCHD) has received notification of a case of hepatitis A, a highly infectious liver infection, in an individual involved in food handling at a Lebanese restaurant in Midtown, Manhattan. The NYCHD is advising any individuals who dined in or ordered takeout from the aforementioned restaurant between January 31 and February 9 to receive the Hepatitis A vaccine, unless they are already vaccinated. The Acting Health Commissioner, Michelle Morse, has urged those who may have been exposed to seek prompt medical attention should they experience symptoms such as yellowing of the eyes and skin, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. The NYCHD advises that individuals who consumed food from the restaurant during the specified period monitor themselves for seven weeks after eating for symptoms of the virus. The restaurant’s spokesperson has pledged to work closely with the relevant health authorities, prioritising the health and well-being of their customers and team members.
