Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) held a three-day anti-terrorist response training for its staff and emergency responders. The multi-agency exercise was led by UK expert Carl Daniels and aimed to test local responses and enhance medical decision-making during a mass casualty event. Key medical staff undertook courses such as Medical Incident Command and Triage (MICAT) and Second Triage to learn how to respond quickly and effectively to a serious incident, deliver emergency medical care, and remove casualties and survivors from the scene. Administrative staff followed courses like Defensible Decision Making to learn appropriate legal protocols and make proportionate and legitimate decisions. GHA Director General Kevin McGee congratulated all staff for participating in the training and for their diligence in facing the simulated catastrophe. Gibraltar’s Minister for Health and Care Gemma Arias-Vasquez remarked instead the need to invest in similar training activities to respond to any scenario.
Participants received certificates from the Gibraltar Government’s Office of Contingencies at the end of the training exercise.
