In a recently released report, Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) claims to have thwarted several terror plots against non-Muslim citizens in 2024. This counter-terrorism effort was in line with the country’s “terror-free Türkiye” vision and aimed to disrupt the activities of several groups, including Daesh, al-Qaida, and the PKK. Several perpetrators of terrorist attacks were arrested and brought to Turkey, while MIT also enhanced its operational and technological capacities to fight hybrid threats. The organization plans to use artificial intelligence more to support Turkish cybersecurity. Commenting on the report, Professor Ibrahim Kalin, director of MIT, observed that the past year was marked by global uncertainty and lack of security, forcing his agency to work tirelessly on mediation efforts and crisis management processes. Kalin also remarked that the war in Gaza and the Russia-Ukraine conflict shook regional and global dynamics and underlined the importance of “multilateral intelligence diplomacy” to defeat threats against Turkish security.
