What happened

Alexander Justin White from Durham, North Carolina, pleaded guilty in a federal court to making plans to travel to Morocco and join ISIS. He also admitted responsibility for conspiring to provide and attempting to provide material support to the terrorist group. Using the name Sulaiman Al-Amriki, the 29-year-old displayed support for ISIS on his Facebook account between May and October 2024, sharing videos glorifying the group and posts about several of its prominent supporters and scholars, including Abu-Hudayfah al-Ansari. He also allegedly discussed his desire to join the organisation. To this end, he planned to leave the United States and fly to Morocco, but he was arrested at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in early December.  The arrest was the work of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTFF), which was highly praised by Acting US Attorney Daniel P. Bubar for its constant effort to protect the public. If convicted, White may face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
