Following the death of a nurse at the national referral hospital on 29 January, the Ebola outbreak was announced on 30 January 2025. Since then, six more cases have been confirmed, including two health workers. The Ministry of Health (MoH) has registered more than 200 contacts in quarantine. The high-risk areas are Kampala, Wakiso, and Mbale districts. The situation is evolving rapidly, with the number of cases expected to increase in the coming days. The MoH reports that 500 health workers have been vaccinated, and a three-month response plan will be introduced on 8 February. This plan has been defined by the MoH, and the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Operations (DG ECHO) is coordinating with local health authorities to take appropriate measures.
