What happened

As indicated in the ‘National Mpox Situation Report,’ a document published by the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the country has recorded 2,671 confirmed cases of mpox, resulting in 19 fatalities as of 4 February 2025. In the total number of confirmed cases, 462 cases have been recorded as occurring within the past 14 days. The distribution of cases across districts reveals a widespread presence of the disease, with 84 districts having reported cases, 53 of which have documented cases within the last 21 days. The demographic profile of the affected population indicates a preponderance of males, constituting 56.8% of the cases, with the majority falling within the 18-29 age group. Kampala district recorded the highest number of deaths (11), followed by Wakiso district (4), and Kikuube, Pallisa, Mukono, and Masindi districts (1 each). The analysis further revealed that the 18-29 and 30-39 age groups were the most affected.
